Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists work with your child to improve their functional skills in the areas of fine motor, self-care and sensory regulation.

Occupational Therapy (OT) treatment focuses on helping people with a physical, sensory, or cognitive disability to become as independent as possible in all areas of their lives. OT can help kids, with various levels of need, to improve their cognitive, physical, sensory, and motor skills and it will help to enhance their self-esteem and sense of accomplishment.

How a child plays by themselves or with others can be a significant indication of social and personal development, as well as their individual level of school readiness. An occupational therapist can evaluate your child’s skills for playing, school performance, and daily activities and compare them with what is developmentally appropriate for that age group.

The Occupational Therapists at Kids Abilities have expertise in addressing sensory needs including modulating and processing sensory information, as well as cognitive and visual perceptual needs. Our occupational therapists have specialized training in the SOS approach to feeding, Therapeutic Listening and Integrated Listening System, neurodevelopmental treatment, and Handwriting Without Tears. They are also able to assist you to obtain adaptive equipment for your child.
